If you passed your driving test on or after 1 January 1997 and you want to learn to drive a larger vehicle, you may be able to apply for the higher category. Once you have obtained provisional entitlement on your driving licence you can take the test in that category

Vehicles between 3500kg and 7500kg with a trailer up to 750kg
you can apply directly to the dvla to have the entitlement added to your license, but if you intend to work the vehicle for hire or reward, you will need to take a test for that catergory, the minimum age for the catergory is 18yrs, also if you have recently passed your test, you would have to take the test anyway.
