I’ve been looking at the ninja 250’s. A brand new one will cost you around $3500 from a dealer. They’re not as fast as the bigger bikes but they’ll beat most cars. 0-60 in approx. 6 secs. They also get excellent gas mileage. I believe it’s the only brand name sport bike that you can get new for under $5000. Also, it is suppose to be a great bike to learn on. Search the web and you’ll find all the info you need. Once you’re out of college you can get that $10,000 super bike. That’s my plan at least.
College towns often have problems with motorcycle theft so you may want to consult your UPD.
You can’t use a bike what you would use a car for. How are you going to carry all the beer and laundry? If you think about it long enough, it will come to your mind.
Take a motorcycle training class one weekend and you’ll learn about different bikes. Good luck and keep your bike locked.
you can get a ninja 650R for about $5200. But if this is your first bike i would recomend getting a used one so you arent out so much money if you lay it down. you can get a good used bike on ebay or for a good price.
Definitely a used bike in the 250-450cc range would be good. You should be able to find a good used machine for around $2,000.
All bikes get good mileage (50-plus mpg).
Keep in mind that motorcycles are not “two-wheeled cars” … you can’t carry as much, and you have to be alert and on-the-button all the time. Groceries and stuff can be difficult, but there are bags available for small items.
You don’t say where you live, but also keep in mind that bikes are not only totally exposed to the weather, they create their very own “wind” effects for the rider, so if it gets even a little chilly where you go to school, you will need special gear to survive year-round riding.
Bikes as main transportation are really not a great idea. They are the best form of transportation when the weather is fine, but when it is wet, or windy, or chilly, or foggy, or anything but clear and bright, they can be death machines (try riding with fogged-up face shield on a 40 and misty morning, and you will develop a whole new vocabulary for fear and agony).
Not to scare you off, but think twice about this.
Don’t bother…they’re extremely dangerous!! Maybe u would consider a scooter….sorry, i hate motorcycles. Best of luck to you.
