The very best deterrent I’ve ever seen was a large dog tied to a bike.
Chaining a bike to an immovable object with a coated cable (bolt cutter-proof) works well, too.
hmm.
interesting WHY?
so you can thwart them or look to circumvent them?
or are you just planning a hyper safe bike.
I won’t tell you what to use but here are the rules.
1 make the bike less desirable to the thief so don’t buy an R1; buy a less popular or more obscure model.
2 Make it and every component identifiable to you so mark it indelibly.
3 make it noisy if touched to attract attention of others and dissuade the thief
4make it immovable by securing it to something large
5 make it in complete so remove a large important component
6 make it so you can follow it electronically.
Here is the fundamental issue concerning motorcycle theft:
Unlike cars, most motorcycles can be physically lifted off of the ground with only the force of one or two people.
Basically, when someone attempts to boost a car, they have to disable the safety features at the location where you last left your car (in public). In contrast, someone can literally pick up your bike and take it to a private garage and work on the security there.
Lo-jack helps, but because of the rather significant cost, your best bet is comprehensive coverage.
Either put it somewhere where no one can see it (inside a locked garage) or put it in in a highly visible area (such as under a street light).
Use a disc brake lock, block in the bike with your car if you have one (I use this trick), chain the bike to a large/immobile object, have an alarm/tracking device installed.
A lot of thefts are crimes of opportunity. No one (or even several deterrents) are fool-proof but if you make it difficult enough to steal, most would-be-thieves will move on to an easier target.

Strap an empty holster on your bike.

Lock it up out of plain sight is one way not to get it stolen.
