Is trying to start a motorcycle without the spark plug dangerous?

I recently tried to start my motorcycle and it would not start.
I had it tick over for about 15 seconds without success. I then tried again for about 15 seconds – still nothing. After that I tried to push start the bike down about 100 metres hill.

Then my drunken friend wandered down the hill and informed me that he had removed the spark plug, and he re-inserted it. The bike worked fine after that.

Basically, after all that…would the engine have sustained any damage at all?

Very Dangerous if the plug sparks and a fuel and air charge come out of the plug hole when it is empty.
