I learned to use a standard shift in a car before I learned to drive a motorcycle but I think it’s really the same just keep on practicing. I would stay away from hills at first. You will get a feel for the clutch.

I road a little 350 motorcycle up and down my street until I had a good feel for it. Then I took the test on the 350 which qualified me for all motorcycles. Then I started riding the Harley Low Rider.

The man ahead of me took the test on his big bike and failed. Pride goes before a fall.

Its best to learn if you rev the bike up real high, then let out the clutch slowly. Now as for shifting, right as you feel the bikes rpm’s at their max, pull in the clutch, shift up one gear, and let the clutch out slowly, with gas. Works for me!

Happens to everyone. I just rode my bike for a long time and gradually got faster. Start out going really fast in first then switch into second. Do this for all of them. I know its a vague answer but thats all you can really do. Also dont be scared to go fast. Go to a large field where you can max out the bike. This way you don’t have to worry about shifting up and down so fast. I got realgood on my old bike this way and I thought I was great but i just bought a new one and i needed to do this all over again. Just be patient.

The way I have taught many new riders is to just sit in one spot, let the clutch out just a little bit until the bike moves forward just a bit. Then pull the clutch back in until it stops moving. That area is called the sweet spot.Keep practicing making the bike go forward, then pulling the clutch in to get the feel of it. Practice somewhere you have lots of room, as you get better, go a little farther and farther. The shifting part is easy, its getting the clutch down to where you are comfortable with it.
