jeeps are a good brand and have been for years. the engines are reliable and strong especially the 4.0 inline six. my freind has a jeep that he haddent started in over a year and he went back to it with a battery and it started like he just turned it off yesterday. of course we changed the oil right quick after but they are great engines.
Jeeps are made in the USA, in Toledo, Ohio.
Gas mileage is not great. The 2008 Grand Cherokee gets an estimated 18 city, 23 highway.
Availability and cost of spare parts depends on where you live. In the US, parts are readily available and the prices are similar to that of parts for other American-made autos. I’m not sure about parts availability or pricing overseas.
There have been several Jeep Cherokee’s.
The Grand is a big SUV and the Sport (and several other models) are smaller.
I have owned 2, and if I was to give a recommendation based on my first one it would be don’t.
But it was a Jeep build in the 80′s before Chrysler bought the name.
In short it depends on the year.
Stay away from the 4 cylinder models built between 1982 to 1989 (there was just too much weight for the engine).
Also do not buy the ones that have the V-6 engine in them. That was a GM engine, and as with all things GM under-engineered (IMHO).
I got about 25 MPG out of our 2001 Cherokee Sport (wish I still had it).
For a 4WD Jeep is the standard by which all others are judged (need I say more)?
Currently the original Cherokee XJ is being produced in CHINA. It has a 2.5 ltr diesel engine. It is now called the Jeep 2500 See the link below for a pic.
The first numeral in the VIN # tells you where it was built. If it is a 1 it is a usa built vehicle. It is not the most fuel efficiant vehicle in its class.
Well if your getting a jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 inline 6 they last a very long time I put 320,000 miles on my 1992 and it ran when I gave it up the body was getting rough as far as gas mileage I do everything possible to improve it bye upgrading exhaust, throttle body spacers, oil change with synthetic, KN air cleaner, splitfire sparkplugs(4.0′s love these plugs) and had the fuel system flushed every 30,000 miles I get about 25mpg I have a 2000 cherokee classic now and I beleave it was built in USA Ohio as for parts there cheap. My wife has a Isuzu Trooper and the parts are double the price
My Cherokee.. Is Wonderful…
Parts are ok Priced.. (Go to AutoZone for Parts… Cheapest)
and it has ALOT of options .. Such as Lift Kits, Kargo Racks
and if you have a 97 Wrangler Engine. You can Add a Turbo.. 8)
Gas… is not really good for me.. i got a busted Fuel injector (which cost about $40-$62) and a Vacuum leak on the Throttle Body.
But Other then that… Jeep Is a Strong Vehicle. and nothing Can compare to it…
It’s a Jeep thing…. OIIIIIIIIIO
Cherokees are built really well and very affordable. I have a ’99 XJ with 100k miles and had nothing major gone wrong with it. The straight six engine is really good too. my brother has owned 3 Cherokees in the past and he wouldn’t go with anything else. All of them had high mileage and they were still going strong.
I would check out and ask people around there what they think about the Cherokee. You will hear the pros and cons, but from what I know and seen, the Cherokee has been one of the best older models you can buy. Parts are cheap and it’s very easy to work on yourself.
