I just got my compressor replaced on my car and since then, the check engine light has been on. Everyone keeps saying, “Just re-set the check engine light”. I don’t know how….

Does anybody know how to reset or turn off the check engine light for a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire???

Either find someone with a programmer or you can go to autozone where they do it for free.

If you had the car electronically diagnosed to find out why the check engine light was on, and that issue was fixed, then it takes a few hundred miles of driving before the light goes off.

If the check engine light didn’t come on until AFTER the repairs, there is like a seperate issue, and the car needs to be brought in for a diagnostic test, which is what Autozone provides for free. Then the situation needs to be remedied and THEN you need to drive for ac ouple hundred miles to reset the light.

you can take the positive and negitive terminals out of the battery. and that resets it.

not true. my check engine light came on, on my 01 GA, due to O2 sensor, and a valve sticking. i replaced both and did a few other upgrades while i had the block ripped apart. i had the battery completely out of the car for 2 days, the light was still on, and get this, all of my radio stations and e.q. settings still remained the same. any how back to the question. take it to a mechanic shop that has a diagnostic scanner, and have them clear the computer for you. don’t drive the car with the check engine light still on for more than you have too. it messes up the intake settings i.e. the air/fuel management system.

take it back to where you got it fixed they will be able to shut it off for you, they probably just overlooked it. plus they can make sure it isn’t on for some other reason. they also should do it for free cause its simple to do and you were just there
