1996 Sunfire, 2.2L engine. The 1997 Sunfire has the same engine, but I don’t know if it’s the 3-speed or the 4-speed auto.

As long as it’s the three speed it would be fine. The transmission is controlled by the engine’s computer and the four speed would require the computer to be re programed or changed with a different one the wiring harness may be different as well.
