What terrible thing are the indonesian boat people seeking asylum from?

There is all this stuff in the news about the ‘boat people’ but I have no idea what it is that they are running from.

They’re running from a bad economy and a lack of social welfare benefits.
Oz has a Navy. They need to use it in the Coral Sea and Indian Ocean.
It’s not what are they running from but where are they running to?
Answer “HERE”, where our laws are slack compared to where they’re from, you don’t have to speak english at all, our government will let you carry on without getting a bullet like back home. You can start whole communitities based on the life you claim to be “escaping”
Not only that you can also get paid to sit on your ass bitching about how bad the country and way of life you “CHOSE” to move to is along with free medicare, you don’t have to assimlate whatsoever. Can complain about women being under dressed by your standards, rape them for it and blame them as you didn’t understand how those infidel heathen westerners lived when you chose to move there, cos hey at worse you’ll get 2-3years jail unlike back home where you’d get stoned to death or something.
They come here illegally, disrespect our laws and authorities, and get do gooders campaining for them and they are eventually allowed to live here. (go to indonesia/afghanistan etc and try all that crap on their government “hey I want a christian based school, to speak only english and free medical and the right to bad mouth you guys publicly even though I chose to move here of my own free will and ignore your ways of life!!!!” and see how they react)
Funny how those claiming to escape certain ways of life, end up bringing those same issues along with them and acting the way they claim they didn’t like back home.
Who wouldn’t want to move to a country like that?
Oh and no I’m not racist, I welcome Immigrants with open arms, just they need to assimilate to us and our laws, not the other way around.
Though I never been in Indonesia, I have been to next door Thailand so it`s very oppressively hot in that corner of the world, could be they are running from that…Or could be they are not Muslims and are being persecuted for that reason, things do get very “hairy” down there, and heads do roll-literally. Also Chinese minority is being mistreated by majority Indonesians..and maybe they just trying to migrate for better living conditions.
