Does it still have the “original” engine?
If so, keep it. It’s worth a lot more with the original engine.
Anybody can stick some aftermarket engine in a car.

True, it’s not a “classic” car yet, but it will be.

Depends on how much coin you want to spend. A friend has a 74 Stingray. He bought straight from GM a 500 hp fuel injected motor. Virtually a drop and drive switch. It was also $12,000.

I’d try and stick with a small block chevrolet engine. It came with a 350, but the block is the same as a 302, 307, 327, 350, and even a small block 400. Any of these is an easy swap. If $$ is available, you can buy a complete “crate engine” from any chevy dealer. Good luck. Have fun!

well u should think of keeping the stock engine if u think ur ever going need to sell it but a car tht is over 20yrs old is a classic and dont even think of dropping in a ford engine if the ford engines are so powerful why do u always hear of ppl putting chevy engines into fords? so right now if u want power but with not all tht hard work probaly a small block engine like a 396, 383, 350 engine would be the best on the gmperformaceparts website they have a 350 small block with basic parts with 290hp and 326 torque for little less then 3k but then there is the LS engine family like LS1 LS3 LS7 and they give pretty good power expecially the LS7 which they use in the new corvette zo6 but if u want a sheet load of power go with a bigblock the 427 and the 454 maybe the 502 would be the best because they are a lil smaller but with lots of ponies. the zz454 engine with 440hp and 50 torque would most likely be the best with lots of hp and lots of torque plus i like the sound of bigblocks and smallblocks alot better then the LS engines they sound like real muscle

    A 350 or 383 stroker small block.

Crate engine sounds like the way to go for you

You can get a long block 350 for $1600, 250 HP, but needs intake, carb, dizzy, etc.

You can get pretty nice 330 to 405 HP full crate engines for right at your $4,000 budget

Heres a link to a list of 350 crate engines

    Heres 355 crate engines

    Here’s 383 crate engines
